In a report from ABC 3340 I-Team, a family in Centreville, Alabama, is seeking answers and justice more than 15 months after their son, Tristan Sheppard, died in the Cahaba River. His parents, Ann and Terry Sheppard, are frustrated by the lack of transparency from authorities, who have refused to release the police report, body camera footage, or the autopsy report.
While authorities initially stated Tristan, who they believed was intoxicated, ran from officers and ended up in the river, his father disputes this account, noting that Tristan did not know how to swim. The family also questions the circumstances of his death, pointing to bruises on his body that they believe did not come from simply jumping in the water.
"I need answers. I wanna know what happened to my son, that's all I'm asking," Ann Sheppard said, expressing her anguish. The family believes that if law enforcement had nothing to hide, they would release the requested information.
