A Letter to Bibb County Community

Dear Bibb County Community,

We are continuing to seek truth and justice surrounding the suspicious death of our beloved Tristan Sheppard.

Please know this is not just about our family’s loss—it’s about the ongoing abuse of power and excessive force that many in our community have experienced at the hands of certain officers. While we recognize that not all officers are part of this misconduct, it is undeniable that some are repeatedly violating the trust of the people they are sworn to protect. Because of these “bad apples,” many residents now live in fear—afraid to go out when certain officers are on patrol. Our community deserves better. Working together, we will not be silenced.

Authority predicated on fear is not the way to engage the community. This is oppression.

Recently, yet another deadly incident involving a Bibb County officer occurred, leaving more families devastated. Our hearts go out to those affected. But this is not an isolated incident —many other troubling alleged incidents have occurred, including:

  • An individual being beaten so severely by an officer that they were hospitalized.

  • A woman violently dragged from her vehicle by her hair.

  • Someone forcibly pulled by the arm from their car, resulting in injury.

  • An officer pulling a gun during a routine stop.

  • An officer placing a foot on a citizen's neck—only for a person in power to defend it by saying the officer was "doing his job."

  • A person being tased without provocation.

  • An officer trespassing into a private yard during a gathering, targeting an individual without cause, and taking them to jail.

These are not random occurrences—they point to a broader culture of unchecked power and intimidation.

We believe the voices of the community must be heard. If you or a loved one has experienced police misconduct, we urge you to email your story to justicefortristansheppard@gmail.com. Please include:

  1. Your name

  2. The officer’s name (if known)

  3. Date and year of the incident

  4. A brief description of what happened

  5. The outcome

We will protect your privacy and will not share your name publicly. Your story will help us to demonstrate that this is not an isolated issue, but a community-wide crisis that demands accountability and reform.

The deadline to submit your encounters is Friday, May 30th, at 5:00 PM. (Please feel free to submit encounters even after the date.) Time is of the essence. Together, we can push for the changes needed to make Bibb County a safe and just place for all its citizens. Officers who have a record of repeated abuse should not be in a position of power. Our mayors and local leaders must step up to help bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community and commit to transparency, accountability, and real reform.

Let’s stand together. Let’s demand justice. Let’s protect future generations.

With hope and determination,

The Family of Tristan Sheppard
